This is not your average ceramics workshop — it’s a space to slow down, get hands-on, and create a one-of-a-kind ceramic piece using the sgraffito technique.
Here’s what we’ll dive into:
– A short and engaging introduction to sgraffito, focusing on contrast, line, and layered color
– Step-by-step guidance from Manjari on applying colored slip, transferring your design, and carving into the surface
– A small test tile to experiment with marks, flow, and composition
– Inspiration from flowers, leaves, and natural forms to help shape your design
– A focused carving session where you create your own sgraffito plate (pre-made and ready for you)
– A relaxed wrap-up where we share our pieces and reflect on the process
This Workshop Is For You If…
– You’re drawn to nature and want to translate it into expressive design
– You want to explore or deepen your ceramic decoration skills
– You enjoy working with detail, texture, and contrast
– You’ve done ceramics before and want to try something new
– You like getting into a creative flow and making something personal

Manjari Sahu
This workshop is led by Manjari Sahu – a ceramic and graphic artist as well as one of our long time members at the studio! Her ceramic pieces are a mix of detailed, fun and practical art such as plates and flower wall hangings, but also necklaces and colourful decorations. “My ceramic practice is rooted in the belief that every leaf, petal, and pattern in the natural world holds a story. Through the meditative process of sgraffito—scratching through layers to reveal what lies beneath—we’ll explore how to translate those stories into form”.
